We found that once the initial rush of users upgrading subsided, the update performed well and provided all of our devices with amazing functionality.  The most notable difference is seen in the iPhone 4S and we are happy to say that this phone is simply amazing.  After 2 years on the Android platform the change is a welcome one.  While android based phones offer compelling features, the simple matter is that it depends on many factors such as the carrier, phone maker and device capabilities that define the user experience.  While we generally prefer more open systems, the iPhone just does it right, does it consistently and makes it a joy to use.

Our favorite use: Combine the iPhone or iPad with an RTI XP3, XP6 or XP8 processor and you have a compelling system for control of all equipment in your home of office.  Our test system included a complete media room with an HDMI matrix feeding multiple TV’s in the home, with sources including Apple TV, iPod, DirecTV receivers, Blu Ray DVD and a Media Server.  The system provides true two way capability and allows integration with other systems such as AprilAire HVAC thermostats, Lutron Lighting/Shades and Thermostats and so much more.

Today is probably not the best day to try and perform this upgrade!  Early reports are showing up on the internet, and our own attempts at updating a few devices ends in an network error message ( err 3259 ).  We sucessfuly updated iTunes to 10.5 without a hitch, but found the update servers for the IOS, is heavily tasked right now and probably suffering from denial of service type symptoms.  After 33 manual attempts we are giving up for the day. 

This experience leads us to wonder why the downloaded update attempts are ont saving the partial downloads and then simply resuming from that point.  Instead, we have witnessed as much as 20mb of 700mb total download than instantly fail.  Each time this happens we revert back to a fresh start.

This update will be minor for some and major for others and should bode well for the lion share of IOS product users.  Some features will not be available for various devices, such as the much anticipated SIRI voice assistant system. 

Be patient and keep trying, just don’t waste too much time as it isnt you or your network…it is on the Apple side for sure and more than likely we will hear about it in the news!

Many companies have built  products around this task.  RTI offers a fully customizable app when paired with a XP series processor.  In short order, they will offer a companion remote as well, with the commonly used hard buttons.  RTI provides one of our favorite platforms, as when it is programmed and designed correctly it is nearly bullet proof. 

While the iPhone 4S release left some disappointed, this was a positive upgrade for an already established phone and platform that just works, offers a certain elegance and is still the benchmark with which many other phone designers are comparing against.  Stay Tuned for more on this devloping story.

Episode 900 Series Review

The short answer is it takes a 3D enabled display, active glasses designed for the display and either a 3D enabled blu ray player, or a broadcast source such as DirecTV or TimeWarner that offers 3D programming.  While I have never cared for 3D in the theater, the home version offers a truly remarkable experience.  Imagine watching the Superbowl in a 3D format, or your favorite movie (must have a 3D version available) such as Avatar in 3D.  The resulting experience will absolutely exceed the experience you had in the normal local theater.

The reason: active glasses and high resolution displays.  The image at home is dramatically different than what we are accustomed to in a Theater.  With brighter images, more saturated colors and a 3D system that is tailored for the home, you will find that the images pop off the screen quite realistically.

The trend hasn’t quite taken off, but for those that received free 3D starter sets with recent display purchases, enjoying 3D at home is affordable and offers a new and growing dimension in entertainment.
